Beaches: Special Edition DVD Review

It’s always great when they find some bloopers from an old film so we can see them for the first time 15 years later. The blooper reel from Beaches is especially cool because it was designed only for the cast and crew. It’s put together like a trailer reel and the announcer’s comments are as funny as the actors flubs’.

The spot on Mayim Bialik’s reminiscences is appreciated because remember, she became a huge star because of this movie. She got a TV series, and then she disappeared from the public eye. If you’ve been watching Fat Actress, you know what she looks like now, but here’s your chance to hear her thoughts at this stage in her life.

Barbara Hershey’s screen test is priceless. It’s actually on film and the rapport between her and Midler is already there.

The regular slew of music videos (for the film’s main song, “Wind Beneath my Wings”), commentaries and trailers round out a great look back at a film that may have invented the term “chick flick.”
