The big feature on this DVD is “How to Make the World’s Greatest Sandwich,” because of all the touching, emotional scenes in the film, the most memorable thing is the sandwich Adam Sandler’s character makes for himself. So now you see the chef teaching him how to do it, and maybe you can follow along at home.
Casting sessions first show James L. Brooks’ great way with children. He’s so energetic and enthusiastic. We don’t even see him, he’s behind camera, but you see exactly how he gets performances of his young stars. When it gets to Paz Vega, you see Adam Sandler reading with her. Vega actually looks more glamorous in the video footage. She’s frumped up a little in the film.
The deleted scenes are great. Most of them seem to have major character moments that just got lost because the characters are firmly established already. But you get to see a lot more Tea Leoni dysfunction, more pressure on Adam Sandler, some wonderful Cloris Leachman reactions. I mean, when Sandler completely outlines just why his calmness annoys frantic Leoni, wow. The movie’s fine the way it is, but man, this is one awesome deleted scenes collection. |
