If the TV ads for this DVD emphasize the bloopers and deleted scenes, it’s because they are the standout extras on the Meet the Fockers DVDs. It’s full of interviews and behind-the-scenes bits, but they’re all fairly standard. Only the deleted scenes and bloopers give you something extra.
Deleted scenes include more De Niro interrogation and Stiller fumbling. Nothing integral to the plot and nothing outrageously funny either, but stuff that makes you smile. The extended shot of the foreskin is pretty cute, and the incomplete CGI is charming. There’s a bit more Owen Wilson and the added epilogue with Jorge’s real father actually should have been in the film. It’s a great payoff.
Bloopers have a few more baby gags this time since there was an infant in the film. Dustin Hoffman doing “You’re Talking to Me” is cool and the alternate sex books are amusing, and there are plenty of flubs and breaking laughs.
I’m not usually into basic behind-the-scenes stuff, but I did have to watch the spot on the Manary Gland. Unfortunately, it’s a very dry look at producing a costume item. They needed to take a more irreverent tone with a feature on a male breast. The Baby Wrangler spot is more playful because it’s got baby footage, but the interviews are still strictly by the books.
For some reason there’s a promo spot for Scrubs, which is an awesome show, but this is totally lame. It’s like it’s made by people who don’t understand the show’s humor or the actors but tried to rip them off.
There are some good extras on the Meet the Fockers DVD, but there’s nothing extraordinary. |
