I really enjoyed the first two Seinfeld collections. My favorite parts were the bloopers, because you got to hear them mess up classic bits, and the standup material, because it was more Jerry Seinfeld magic. Season Four delivers more of all of the bonus features that fans have been waiting for.
The bloopers still feature outtakes of classic bits like the bubble boy. But they’ve also got some physical mishaps like Kramer’s flaming wig, Seinfeld’s stand-up spotlight and simply his coat rack.
The standup material features awesome perspectives on things like horse transportation, shoe salesman and movie candy. I mean, what is the deal with those things.
Inside looks still give you insights on individual episodes with cast members and creators. I’m just disappointed that there’s no story about the young actor cast as the bubble boy whose footage was lost due to a film scratch. I met an actor who told me this story, so either he was lying, or the Seinfeld producers are whitewashing the whole thing!
Deleted scenes are cool, just to see more stuff. It’s mostly filler. For example, in the classic “The Contest” episode, Elaine actually gets invited to the aerobics class where she eventually meets JFK Jr. We don’t need to know this, but it’s interesting they originally shot it. There’s a hint of a bit about inviting people to sit down, but it doesn’t go anywhere.
A brand new extra is a Regis and Kathy Lee (remember that combo?) where the Seinfeld cast filmed a re-enactment of one of their conversations. This takes a long setup because you have to hear Regis and Kathy Lee’s inane conversation first. But it’s so funny once you see the Seinfeld crew rip it up.
The major documentary on this set focuses on how the fourth season became a cultural phenomenon. A lot of it, you’ll remember from living through it. Some of it is more of an insider’s perspective. Good stuff.
Also, it’s Seinfeld people! Get it. |
