Man, they got some big stars to speak in this documentary. Oprah Winfrey and Adam Sandler join the actual Cosby Show cast to talk about the sitcom classic in a 90 minute documentary special, “The Cosby Show: A Look Back.”
The framework of it is Bill Cosby doing a stand-up recount of the show. It’s mixed with film clips and interview bites. Sometimes outtakes are interspersed, giving you a taste of on set moments. Audition footage shows up so you see baby Keshia being cute. The pace is brisk enough that you’re never stuck with talking heads or endless raw footage all at once.
A part of me wishes there were just unedited segments of auditions, outtakes, etc. so you could watch what you want in a klump. But man, this 90 minute documentary works. It flows, it shows you interesting stuff and it paints a fitting portrait of the whole series, not just the first season. I only worry that there’s nothing left for subsequent DVDs, but hopefully they keep it up with a nice special for each set. |
