BBC Video is introducing America to the unfathomable antics of Alan Partridge, host of the cheesiest talk show on television, with the DVD release of Knowing Me Knowing You With Alan Partridge. Proclaimed as ““Larry Sanders,”—with a British accent” by New York Newsday, Steve Coogan (24 Hour Party People, Coffee and Cigarettes and Around the World in 80 Days) stars as Partridge, whose self-absorption is matched only by his bizarre fixation with ABBA. Week after week, Alan confronts an endless parade of C-list celebrities, many portrayed by co-writer Patrick Marber.
A Talkback Production for BBC TV, written and created by Armando Iannucci (I’m Alan Partridge), Steve Coogan and Patrick Marber (Closer) in 1994, this innovative breed of faux television show has paved the way for many parodies of its kind. It won two British Comedy Awards for Best New TV Comedy and Best Male TV Performer as well as a 1995 BAFTA nomination for Best Light Entertainment Program or Series. In 1998 Coogan reprised the iconic character in the series sequel I’m Alan Partridge and captured a British Comedy Award for Best TV Comedy Actor along with BAFTA Awards for Best Comedy and Best Comedy Performance. The character Alan Partridge was also voted #7 in a UK poll of 100 Greatest TV Characters conducted by Channel 4 Television.
