This is a DVD fans have been waiting for a long time. Through numerous delays, after six years since its theatrical release, you’d expect a lot. Turns out there’s only some deleted scenes and a retrospective featurette. It’s hardly worth the wait.
The retrospective is a really flat interview piece with lots of dead space. For some reason, they chose to intro each topic with a long slate of black screen, so any flow to the piece is lost. Not that there’d be much flow. Mike Judge talking about his inspirations is cool, but all of the actors just state the obvious. Yeah, office work sucks, yeah this really happens, yeah, Mike Judge is a genius. I really believe there’s more to the movie than that.
The deleted scenes have some good stuff. Peter comes up with a primitive plan to slack off before the main action, he blows up at a receptionist, poor Milton gets terrorized more and there’s some “office” like banter at the construction site. Some are just little trims, but there’s a good five minutes of omissions.
If you don’t already have Office Space, this is as good a reason as any to buy it. But if you already own it, just rent the new one from Netflix to see the deleted scenes. Don’t buy a new DVD for it. |

Description: Deleted scenes are funny but a brief retrospective documentary was hardly worth the many years' wait for this special edition DVD.
