BBC Video™ invites audiences to meet the Kumars--a family just like any other, with the exception of the state-of-the-art television studio in the backyard and celebrities that keep popping by.
The unique series features the Kumars, a “typical” Indian family living in the north of London, who have hit upon a unique method of “Keeping up with the Joneses” by transforming their backyard into a state-of-the-art TV studio from where they host their very own talk show. The son, aspiring host Sanjeev, pops the questions while his mother (Madhuri), father (Ashwin) and mischievous granny (Sushila) interrupt from a nearby sofa with wildly inappropriate and irrelevant questions. Featured guest stars including Minnie Driver, Richard E. Grant and former Spice Girl Mel B.
Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “fresh and unpredictable” and the Chicago Tribune as “laugh-out-loud funny,” The Kumars at No. 42 remains one of BBC America’s top three shows since its premiere in August 2004. Additionally, this hysterical comedy has garnered numerous awards including a 2005 Peabody Award, two International Emmys (in 2003 and 2002), the 2002 British Comedy Award for Best New TV Comedy and a 2002 BAFTA Award nomination for Best Comedy Program upon its premiere in the UK.
