It’s great how they’re now rushing Seinfeld seasons out in sets of two. Why wait years to own the entire run of the show? We should be complete by next Christmas. All of the regular extras are still here, deleted scenes, commentaries, episode notes, standup bits and more. So I’ll focus on the new stuff.
Season Five features a spotlight on George Costanza and Larry David. In the beginning, it may seem like a puff piece glorifying Jason Alexander’s contributions to the show. By the end, you’ve learned about not only the remarkable similarities between David and Costanza, but the differences between them and Alexander.
Season Six features an in-depth half hour documentary in two parts that begins at the script phase and goes through filming before the audience. You get to hear rejected script ideas and learn what a tight ship the show was compared to other lackadaisical sitcoms.
Season Six also includes three animated shorts, interpretive cartoons either portraying action that is only told in dialogue or interpreting the scene a bit differently. They are cute but ultimately just a toy extra. They’re not as clever as the show and you don’t learn anything. |
