I was really hoping the features on geisha school, dance and sumo wrestling would be cool, in depth looks into the world that the film only has time to glance over. Unfortunately, these are all your standard EPK spots. They’re fine, but it’s nothing surprising about actor’s training and filmmaking.
The big surprise on this two disc DVD is a spot on chef Nobu Matsuhisa. These are pretty much just leaving a camera running in front of the guy and you get a sense of real Asian culture just seeing the heart and soul he puts into his work. It’s got the loosest connection to the movie because he only has a cameo, but it will give you the deepest connection of any of the extras.
There are some nice details in spots on the building of the village and choreographing the dances, and with 11 features, fans will have plenty to explore. But my pick is the “Day With Chef Nobo” featurette. |

Description: With 11 featurettes, there are plenty of aspects of Geisha life to explore on this DVD. But the best extra feature has the least to do with the movie itself. Find out why in this DVD review.
