Paramount has been putting together great collections for this classic TV series, pointing out flubs, showing alternate opening segments, providing radio clips and other rare footage. Now that they’re up to Season Six, it seems like they have even more material to choose from.
Disc one of I Love Lucy: The Complete Sixth Season features a clip from The Chevy Show, a Bob Hope Chevrolet special on which the Lucy cast appeared in return for his appearance on their season premiere. A skit with Hope as Ricky and Desi Arnaz as Fred lets the two actors spoof their colleagues.
Disc one also has a three page text on Keith Thibodeaux, the actor who played the Ricardo’s son.
Disc two has “Lucy in Color,” colorized segments from a Christmas special. It doesn’t look too bad. The faces don’t look green. It’s not natural but the colors approximate how something like Technicolor of the era would look.
They’ve also started doing audio commentaries for select episodes. The commentators tend to be the young kids or guest stars who are still around to speak about their memories, but they fill in the details nicely. In addition to the show, they continue to speak in front of still photos, so you get way more than a little half hour gabfest. One with the writers is actually slower than the actor ones. |
