Dave Chappelle’s Block Party is no substitute for the comedian’s sketch comedy show, but at least it’s something. Chappelle makes a few jokes in between hip hop acts, and music lovers are raving about the performances. If you’re into it, the DVD gives you more behind-the-scenes information on the concert.
The “Making of” documentary is presented in the same style as the film itself. Candid behind-the-scenes footage shows Chappelle actually trying to put the acts together. The director gets to appear on camera to take us through the logistics of filming it. It’s not a funny or musical documentary, though there is some history of the block’s connection to music. Mainly, it shows you how it was done.
“Ohio Players” profiles the people of the town where Chappelle gave out his block party tickets. On camera interviews let you get to know the people in the audience in the movie a little bit more than the film itself shows them. Basically, it’s deleted scenes focused in the town but in chronicling their whole journey through the party it gives you another behind the scenes perspective. |
