This TV season brings us two new lawyers to join the ranks of all the other law show out there. But this is nothing new. Hollywood has always been obsessed with the law, perhaps because lawyers are the ultimate actors. Here are 10 fake lawyers we’d like to represent us if we’re ever falsely accused of murdering our ex-wife and her friend from a restaurant.
10. Corbin Bernsen - Arnie Becker may not have been the best lawyer on L.A. Law but he’s the one we remember most. Falling through the ceiling in his many sexual escapades, he kept his clients happy.
9. Keanu Reeves - He saves the world. He travels through time. And he also keeps pedophiles out of jail in The Devil’s Advocate. He didn’t mean to be sleazy. The devil made him do it.
8. Matthew McConaughey - If you have to be on trial in the hot, sweaty south, there’s no better man to swoon his way through the jury box like Matthew McConaughey did in A Time to Kill. He didn’t even have a legal defense. He won the case on charm.
7. Matt Damon - Even though he was a fresh faced baby in The Rainmaker, he took on the big bad corporation and won. Francis Ford Coppola’s highly underappreciated Grisham film is one of the most touching and funny in the genre.
6. Jim Carrey - In Liar Liar he managed to win a case even though he couldn’t stretch the truth. That’s some powerful law.
5. Camryn Manheim - I never actually watched The Practice but I like her sass.
4. Raymond Burr - Well, you can’t do much better than Perry Mason.
3. George Clooney - I may be the only one still touting the genius of Intolerable Cruelty, but this lawyer had the most rock solid prenup in the history of the world.
2. Victor Garber - It’s surely unfair to write this list before I see James Woods’ take, but man, I like Justice. Ron Trott is the Jack Bristow of law. He’s always got a solution to the problem.
1. Wolfram and Hart - Sorry, I was a big Angel fan and these guys were dangerous. Their law went beyond the corporal world with afterlife contracts and multi-dimensional branches. |
