This weekend brings another fine Saw film full of elaborate carnage as Jigsaw sets his gory traps for hapless victims. The horror genre has some of the most creativity in all of Hollywood as people keep coming up with new ways to kill people. Here are 10 of our favorite horror movie deaths.
10. Hellraiser Hooks - When Pinhead first shot hooks into Frank’s skin in the opening scene, it made me cringe, seeing that skin pulled. It became his signature, ripping peoples skin off.
9. The Omen Decapitation - The Omen was kind of the original Final Destination, as everyday circumstances led to gory demises. The pane of glass slicing the photographer’s head clean off was as extreme as they got back in the old days.
8. 13 Ghosts Glass Split - This death scene was so awesome, the rest of the movie couldn’t hold up. A lawyer gets his entire body sliced apart lengthwise by two closing panes of glass.
7. Dawn of the Dead Chainsaw Accident - Any zombie movie is pretty much the same horde surrounding each victim. But the remake of Dawn of the Dead had a pretty horrific accident, as some erratic driving led the survivors to mutilate each other.
6. Jason and the Sleeping Bag - Most of the Friday the 13th kills are your standard slashings. But when one brilliant victim hid inside her sleeping bag, Jason had the foresight to pick up the bag and slam it against a tree. It only took one shot to handle his business.
5. Freddy and the Deaf Kid - Freddy Kreuger has some of the most creative kills in all of horror. Since he lives in the dream world, anything can happen. Perhaps the most elaborate was when he cut off a deaf kid’s good ear to taunt him, then gave him a monster hearing aid and overloaded him with evil sounds.
4. Hostel Eye Torture - This isn’t even what ultimately killer her, but watching that eye hang out of the socket, and when the hero has to cut it off… ewwwwww.
3. Final Destination 2 Glass Crush – All the Final Destination deaths are pretty great. I think my favorite is the window pane just collapsing the kid in part two. Maybe I’m obsessed with glass, but this was such a misdirect after the dentist’s office, and so outrageously ridiculous it’s my pick.
2. Bride of Chucky Nails – Aw, the late John Ritter has the best death scene in Chucky the killer doll’s long legacy. With a row of nails set up along the glove compartment of a car, Chucky rigs the compartment to open, flinging nails in Ritter’s face so he looks like Pinhead.
1. Anything from Saw – Like the Final Destinations, the Saw movies have such clever contraptions and mind games, I can’t even pick one from the three films. |
