The DVD of this “Big for Girls” comedy has all the standard features, plus some standouts. I don’t know how many 13-year-old girls will listen to a director’s commentary, but they’ll love to see the additional footage, outtakes and recollections of the stars’ awkward youth.
The “I Was a Teenage Geek” featurette is the best feature, a really cute angle with interviews of people talking about being a geek, accompanied by photos. See Jennifer Garner as a band geek, and realize she’s still hot. The woman hasn’t changed since high school! The other actors’ photos and explanations follow.
18 deleted scenes. Man, this movie could’ve been an epic. These selections range from scene extensions featuring more jokes, to plot points. You don’t really need to see Jenna go to the doctor to confirm that her instant adulthood is not the result of a tumor of some kind. The scenes with additional gags will make fans laugh though, and girls will love the extra fashion montage. Techies will appreciate that it’s silent, because they didn’t bother to purchase music rights before they cut it.
The bloopers are quite similar to the Alias bloopers. Garner makes funny faces, laughs at the scenes and goofs off. It’s all fun for the family.
