I Love Lucy – The Complete Second Season

The extras on this collection are not quite what you imagine, but they’re still ingenious. Flubs are not actually outtakes of messed up lines, but rather video segments that point out continuity errors in the shows. It’s a great, informative way to repackage the material and by manipulating the footage via slow motion and split screen comparisons, it doesn’t feel like the same old material.

Behind the scenes material is actually presented as an oral reading of a section from a Lucy biography. This is an interesting way of doing it too, though not your traditional behind the scenes segment.

The animated segments are completely new to me. I never even knew Lucy didn’t originally have the heart shaped credits. So that’s real gold, as are the Lucy radio broadcasts which would have no outlet today except for a DVD like this.

This is really an ingeniously clever way to make the most out of limited material from an old classic.
