Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Here is a movie that really needs a DVD to explain it. And they do. My favorite extra on this disc is a conversation between Jim Carrey and director Michel Gondry. They pick apart lots of specific psychological aspects of the film, and Carrey really opens up. It gives you a deeper appreciation for the film.

The commentary by Gondry and writer Charlie Kaufman is great too, though I defy you to understand half of what Gondry says through that thick, French accent. But these are the rare filmmakers who have clear, definite ideas behind their work and it’s worth listening to them discuss it.

The small collections of deleted scenes and bloopers are great too. The deleted scenes introduce a subplot about a previous relationship Carrey’s character had, which adds a layer to his problems. The bloopers feature
