Home Improvement – The Complete First Season

There must have been people waiting for this DVD as long as Seinfeld, since at one time, it topped Seinfeld in the ratings. But with decidedly less fanfare, a still respectable DVD comes for Tim Allen’s sitcom.

The only real extra is commentary on several episodes from the show’s creators. They have a lot of interesting things to say about the development of the show. After the pilot episode, there’s a little less to reveal as the show gets established, but they manage to keep it going with few gaps and little reliance on describing the on-screen action.

Allen himself does not appear on the DVD, but he’s well represented by the show creators. Perhaps future collections can be more inclusive.
