| The Saddest Music in the World
I was so taken with this art film done in the style of obscure old black and white films that I wanted to see more work from director Guy Maddin. Thankfully, this DVD delivers three of his short films, though not necessarily previous work. As they all end with the title “The Saddest Music in the World?” I imagine they were created for the DVD while on the set of the film.
The first one is weird, just a sort of musical processional. The second one is funny with a bunch of guys just slapping each other around with funny sound effects. The third combines both tones with a funny wrestling match between a woman and death, but some weird and disturbing imagery that gives you pause.
If you’re into art films like this, definitely check out the short films on the DVD.
