You might not think there’s much a DVD for a romantic drama could go into. There are no special effects to dissect, no big stunts to explore. But The Notebook is one of the best DVDs for extras because it focuses on the storytelling.
The best extras are the spots on casting, as the chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling was central to the film’s sincere impact. Seeing McAdams’ screen test is amazing because she’s doing the movie quality performance only without the period costume.
The collection of deleted are all interesting moments for the film. They’re all worth watching as further explorations of the story. The film is not lacking in any department, but at least it’s a deleted scenes reel worth watching.
The behind the scenes featurettes actually let you see what director Nick Cassavettes is like on the set. Even though it’s a studio polished documentary, it gives you more insight into the process than you usually get from DVDs. |
